The Florida Hemingway Cats -
Perhaps you've heard about these cats before, famous for their extra toes. Approximately 60 cats live on the grounds of the Hemingway House. Some are descended from a cat owned by Ernest Hemingway himself, a feline that had six toes on each of its paws. Officially known as polydactyl for these extra toes, the cats are cared for by the Hemingway Museum staff.
Ernest Hemingway, the American Legend -
One of the country's most beloved writers of the 20th century, Ernest Hemingway is known throughout the world for his distinctive writing style and stories full of both adventure and deep character development. He's also famous for being a man who faced challenges as well as triumphs. For ten years, he called Key West home, and it was here that he wrote some of his most memorable works, including the novel, A Farewell to Arms.
The Key West Hemingway House -
Located on Whitehead Street in the heart of Old Key West, the Hemingway Home & Museum is a monument to the great writer. The Spanish colonial style house and grounds have been lovingly preserved. Be sure to stop by the outdoor swimming pool, said to be the first one ever built in Key West. Inside the house, visitors will see some of Hemingway's African safari trophies as well as his writing studio.
